Τι κατάφεραν οι εξεγερμένοι της Αιγύπτου

Το να προσκυνάς το ανεξήγητο δεν σημαίνει απαραίτητα ότι θα προσκυνάς για πάντα και διεφθαρμένα καθεστώτα, οπότε προσευχή μεν, αλλά και σηκωμένη γροθιά μετά...

Τι έχει επιτύχει μέχρι χθες Παρασκευή 4 Φεβρουαρίου το κίνημα διαμαρτυρίας των πολιτών της Αιγύπτου σύμφωνα με τον αμερικανό ακαδημαϊκό Juan Cole* (βλέπε σύντομο βιογραφικό στο τέλος του κειμένου), παρά το ότι δεν έχουν καταφέρει ακόμα να παραιτηθεί ο Μουμπάρακ. Παρατηρήσεις και διορθώσεις για τη μετάφραση του αγγλικού κειμένου δεκτές Αλλά σημειωτέον ότι δεν έχω κάνει ακριβή μετάφραση προκειμένου να αποδώσω, όσο καλύτερα μπορούσα, το νόημα στα ελληνικά.

1. The hundreds of thousands (the Egyptian Arabic press is saying a million nationwide) of demonstrators showed that they had not been cowed by the vicious attacks of Ministry of Interior goons on Wednesday and Thursday, which killed 7 and wounded over 1,000.

1. Οι εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες (ο αιγυπτιακός αραβικός Τύπος λέει ένα εκατομμύριο σε εθνικό επίπεδο) των διαδηλωτών έδειξαν ότι δεν πτοήθηκαν από τις μοχθηρές επιθέσεις των μπράβων του Υπουργείου Εσωτερικών την Τετάρτη και την Πέμπτη, στις οποίες σκοτώθηκαν 7 και τραυματίστηκαν πάνω από 1.000 άτομα.

2. By their determination and steadfastness, they put the Egyptian army in the position of having to protect them from further attacks by the petty criminals and plainclothes secret police deployed by the Interior Ministry. The alternative would have been a bloodbath that could have destabilized the country and would have attracted further international condemnation.

Με την αποφασιστικότητα και τη σταθερότητά τους, έβαλαν τον αιγυπτιακό στρατό σε προστατευτικό ρόλο, ως προς την κλιμάκωση των επιθέσεων των μικρο-εγκληματιών και της μυστικής αστυνομίας με πολιτικά που ασκήθηκε από το Υπουργείο Εσωτερικών. Το εναλλακτικό ενδεχόμενο θα ήταν ένα λουτρό αίματος που θα μπορούσε να αποσταθεροποιήσει τη χώρα και να προσελκύσει περαιτέρω τη διεθνή καταδίκη.

3. They showed that they still have substantial momentum and that the cosmetic changes made in the government (switching out corrupt businessmen for authoritarian generals as cabinet ministers) have not actually met their demands for reform.

3. Έδειξαν ότι διαθέτουν ακόμη ουσιαστική ορμή και ότι οι «διακοσμητικές» αλλαγές που γίνονται στην κυβέρνηση (παύση διεφθαρμένων επιχειρηματιών για να μπουν στη θέση τους απολυταρχικοί στρατηγοί ως υπουργοί της κυβέρνησης) δεν έχουν εκπληρώσει πραγματικά τα αιτήματά τους για μεταρρύθμιση.

4. They showed that they are a broad-based, multi-class movement, with working-class Egyptians clearly making up a significant proportion of the crowd in Tahrir Square.

4. Φάνηκε ότι πρόκειται για ένα ευρείας βάσης πολυταξικό κίνημα, με την εργατική τάξη της Αιγύπτου να καθιστά σαφές ότι αποτελεί ένα σημαντικό ποσοστό του πλήθους στην πλατεία Ταχρίρ.

5. They demonstrated that they are a nation-wide movement, bringing hundreds of thousands out in Alexandria, Suez, Ismailiya, Mansoura, Luxor, Aswan and elsewhere.

5. Διαδήλωσαν ότι πρόκειται για μία εθνικής εμβέλειας κινητοποίηση, κατεβάζοντας στο δρόμο εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες στην Αλεξάνδρεια, στο Σουέζ, στην Ισμαλαία, στη Μανσούρα, το Λούξορ, το Ασουάν και όπου αλλού.

6. They put pressure on the Obama administration to hold Mubarak’s feet to the fire about an early departure.

6. Ασκησαν πίεση στην κυβέρνηση Ομπάμα ώστε να πιέζει με τη σειρά της τον Μουμπάρακ να απομακρυνθεί έγκαιρα.

7. They so reassured Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that they are the future of Egypt that he took the risk of calling for Mubarak to step down.

7. Δημιούργησαν τόσο μεγάλη βεβαιότητα στον Τούρκο Πρωθυπουργό Ταγίπ Ερντογάν ότι είναι το μέλλον της Αιγύπτου που πήρε το ρίσκο να ζητήσει από τον Μουμπάρακ να παραιτηθεί.

8. By making a Mubarak departure seem sure, they tempted new presidential candidates into the arena, as with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, who visited the crowds at Tahrir Square to some acclaim.

8. Με να κάνουν την παραίτηση Μουμπάρακ να φαίνεται σίγουρη, φέρνουν στην πολιτική αρένα νέους υποψήφιους προέδρους με το να τους βάζουν στον πειρασμό για αναγνωρισιμότητα, όπως συνέβη με τον Γενικό Γραμματέα του Αραβικού Συνδέσμου, Αμρ Μούσα, ο οποίος επισκέφθηκε τα πλήθη στην Πλατεία Ταχρίρ.

9. The optimism created by crowd actions caused Nobel prize winner Mohamed Elbaradei to make an about-face and affirm that he would be willing to run for president if drafted.

9. Η αισιοδοξία που δημιουργήθηκε από τις δράσεις του πλήθους προκάλεσε τον νομπελίστα Μοχάμεντ Ελ Μπαραντέι να κάνει μεταστροφή και να δηλώσει υπεύθυνα ότι εάν στρατολογηθεί θα ήταν διατεθειμένος να θέσει υποψηφιότητα για πρόεδρος.

10. Gave cover to to Ayman Nur of the Tomorrow (Ghad) Party and other leaders of opposition political parties to continue to demand Mubarak’s departure.
